Answers:
What is the best time for Sodding?
Sodding may be done at anytime of the growth season. The grass is already developed, and less affected by changing temperatures. It must be kept moist, and attention should be paid to the different challenges each season presents. Read FULL ARTICLE.
How to water Sod?
Once the sod is installed, the most important part begins – the watering. It is absolutely crucial to keep the lawn constantly moist for the first 14 days. This means watering it at least 2 time a day. We provide a detailed watering schedule with each sodding job we perform.
Can sod be laid over triple mix?
In general yes. Sod can be aid over any type of growth medium. However, the richer the medium is with nutrients, the better it will grow – short, as well as in the longer term.
Triple mix is a good choice, but we recommend using Grow Max whenever available – this is what we are using in providing our lawn installation services.
Grow Max is a higher grade type of soil, with higher level of nutrients, and much better moisture and air holding properties – very important factors for the success of a new lawn.
What determines the cost of a new lawn – sod installation per square foot?
The current condition of the area, and the amount of work required to properly prepare the area for a new lawn – sod installation (sodding).
All weeds must be killed (we only use an organic, vinegar based weed killer), soil needs to be turned over, rejuvenated, and graded, etc’.
The quality of existing soil is also very important – the worse it is, the harder is the work, and the more nutrients need to be worked in – in order to assure proper long term growth of the new lawn.
How to stop Dandelions without using chemicals?
There are brand new organic products available on the lawn care market, many of them delivering great results. We use Corn Gluten, as it helps to suppress and prevent new seeds from germinating – hence disabling new weeds and not allowing them to grow.
What is the best time to over-seed?
Over seeding have a very short window of opportunity – late spring or early fall. The key is to have mild temperatures (between 10C-24C) for a period of three weeks minimum. Excess heat may burn the young grass, and the lack of frequent rain demands constant watering.
What is De-thatching?
Dethatching is one of four main spring activities for perfect lawn maintenance (along with: aeration, fertilizing, and over-seeding).
It is the process of removing a layer of dead grass clippings, roots, and other material – that builds up during the growth season. Dethatching allows for air, moisture, and nutrients to reach the grass roots, resulting in vigorous root development, rapid grass blades growth, and increased resistance to diseases.
